چکیده

Integrating population genetics into community ecology theory is a major goal in ecology and evolution, but analyzing the resulting models is computationally daunting. Here we describe sPEGG (simulating Phenotypic Evolution on General Purpose Graphics Processing Units (GPGPUs)), an open-source, multi-species forward-time population genetics simulator. Using a single commodity GPGPU instead of a single central processor, we find sPEGG can accelerate eco-evolutionary simulations by a factor of over 200, comparable to performance on a small-to-medium sized computer cluster. keywords: forward-time population genetics models; computational biology; eco-evolutionary dynamics; parallel computing; GPU; individual-based models; CUDA

SSLShader: Cheap SSL Acceleration with Commodity Processors

Secure end-to-end communication is becoming increasingly important as more private and sensitive data is transferred on the Internet. Unfortunately, today’s SSL deployment is largely limited to security or privacycritical domains. The low adoption rate is mainly attributed to the heavy cryptographic computation overhead on the server side, and the cost of good privacy on the Internet is tightly...

Behavior Simulation on Graphics Hardware for Dynamic Virtual Environments

The complexity of the real world is difficult to simulate with a computer program. Even the simplest of our everyday experiences contain many hundreds, if not thousands, of active, dynamic objects. Building virtual experiences that mimic real-life will result in much broader use of simulation technology throughout society, especially for education and training. Many applications would see immed...

Fast parallel Particle-To-Grid interpolation for plasma PIC simulations on the GPU

Particle-in-Cell (PIC) methods have been widely used for plasma physics simulations in the past three decades. To ensure an acceptable level of statistical accuracy relatively large numbers of particles are needed. State-of-the-art Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), with their high memory bandwidth, hundreds of SPMD processors, and half-a-teraflop performance potential, offer a viable alternativ...

Stream Processing of a Neural Classifier II

This article presents a real-time Fuzzy ART neural classifier for skin segmentation implemented on a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). GPUs have evolved into powerful programmable processors, becoming increasingly used in time-dependent research fields such as dynamics simulation, database management, computer vision or image processing. GPUs are designed following a Stream Processing Model and e...

Gnort: High Performance Network Intrusion Detection Using Graphics Processors

The constant increase in link speeds and number of threats poses challenges to network intrusion detection systems (NIDS), which must cope with higher traffic throughput and perform even more complex per-packet processing. In this paper, we present an intrusion detection system based on the Snort open-source NIDS that exploits the underutilized computational power of modern graphics cards to of...
